CSA Frequently Asked Questions

  • Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is an arrangement where farmers sell their produce directly to local consumers. The consumer receives a weekly box of produce which is their “share” of that season’s harvest.

  • CSA benefits both you and the farm! For members, the CSA takes the guesswork out of eating seasonally. It allows you to be more in tune with what’s growing on the farm, deepening your connection with the natural growing cycles in Athens. Better than the markets, CSA ensures you get the first produce of the season and you never run the risk of showing up to sold-out produce. Our CSA members also get to be part of a community that comes together over a shared sense of purpose. We occasionally hold CSA member-only farm tours and potlucks that are a great way to connect with other members and deepen your connection to your food & community.

For the farm, a strong CSA means stability through consistent year-round income and a sense of investment in our community. It provides some ease in planning daily harvests, which is especially vital during our busy seasons and our slower months. For both the farmers and the members, it allows us to be more connected in community since we’ll see each other every week!

  • For the 2024 CSA season we will be offering 4 sessions.

    Winter 2024: February 7th - 28th (4 weeks)
    Spring 2024: March 5th - May 30th (13 weeks)
    Summer 2024: June 4th - August 29th (13 weeks)
    Fall 2024: September 3rd - November 21st (12 weeks)

  • You can choose from the $35 farm box, the $25 farm box, or the $15 flower share.

$25 FARM BOX: Contains 6-8 veggies each week. This size is perfect for one to two people.

$35 FARM BOX: Contains 8-10 seasonal vegetables each week. The $35 farm box will have all of the veggies in the $25 farm box plus 2-3 additional fruits or veggies. This option is perfect for a family, roommates, or a couple of serious veggie eaters!

$15 FLOWER SHARE: One bouquet of our best fresh-cut flowers each week. Bunches may be single variety or mixed arrangements depending on season and availability.

  • Items in the veggie shares will change from week to week, with popular “staple” items like lettuce, tomatoes, and squash appearing more often than other vegetables. In the spring, expect greens like kale and collards, lettuce, arugula, root vegetables like carrots, radishes and turnips, and fun extras like strawberries, green garlic, fennel, and endive. As summer heats up, you’ll see tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes, and okra, onions, some heat-tolerant greens, among others. As temperatures fall, you’ll be eating sweet potatoes, winter squash, greens, roots, and salad greens.

  • While we won’t have the capacity to provide a la carte shopping for the CSA each week, we will often have different items to choose from at pickup. For example, in the spring your share might look like: 1 pint of strawberries, 1 bunch of collards OR kale, 1 bunch of daikon OR salad radishes, 1 bag of arugula OR spring mix, 1 bunch of hakurei turnips, 1 bunch of carrots OR beets etc.

Additionally, we will provide a swap box at our pickup location, so you’ll be able to swap out one item for another. As we’re able, we’ll have some additional produce and other farm-fresh items for sale at CSA pickup.

  • We offer several options for pickup. Times and locations for our 2024 CSA pickups:

    Tuesdays at Athens Montessori (4-6pm)
Wednesdays at Creature Comforts Brewing Co (5-8pm)
Thursdays at Athentic Brewing Co (4-6pm)
Saturdays at Athens Farmers Market (8am-12pm)

*NEW* Home Delivery is available on Wednesday afternoons (4-6pm) within our delivery range. Our delivery range can be viewed on the product page when you select your CSA, and encompasses much of the Athens, Watkinsville, and Winterville area.

  • Because of the nature of the CSA, we will not offer refunds if you miss your share for a week. If you do miss your pickup, please contact us by 9AM the following morning to discuss options. Unclaimed shares will be donated.

If you know in advance that you won’t be able to pick up your share on your designated day one week (vacation, work, life happens etc.) we recommend seeing if a friend or neighbor can come by in your place. Just tell them to give us your name at pickup! If you have more questions or concerns about missed pickups, email us at diamondhillfarmcsa@gmail.com

  • We recognize that CSA’s are not easily accessible to everybody financially. We are now offering slots for reduced price CSA shares. Please fill out the form on the “discounted CSA shares” page of the website, or reach out to us at diamondhillfarmcsa@gmail.com to discuss payment plans.

If you would like to contribute to our “Share the Harvest” fund that helps make these reduced price shares possible, please go to our web store to donate. Thank you for your generosity!
