Oh, December

Dear Farm Community -

Yeah, last week sure felt like winter. A dreary week of rain, clouds, and an somewhat hostile “gentle breeze,” we’re all reminding ourselves that in order to enjoy working outside on those beautiful 70 degree sunny days, we’ve got to endure the 40-degree wet and dreary ones too. We had some bright spots in our overcast week, though! We planted out all of our butterfly ranunculus!!! We SO love these flowers, and last year we grew a near-perfect crop, so as we tucked their sprouted corms into the soil we said a lil prayer for a repeat!

Despite the cold, we’ve got some flowers right now! Our stock and anemones are producing a trickle of blooms that we’re happy to let brighten up these dreary days. They’re in short supply, but in a few months we’ll have more anemones (and ranunculus, and poppies etc etc) than we can imagine. But what did we become completely obsessed with this week? Our Stella Rosa radicchio 😍 🩷 😍 💕

While technically a bitter green, we’re callin’ it a bitter pink. If you didn’t catch it at our farmers markets this past weekend, keep your eyes peeled this upcoming one! We’ve got lots of it planted and are looking forward to sharing it with you. You can assemble a beautiful, dreamy pink salad like this pink radicchio & blood orange salad or make your own combination. The key to bitters is to balance with something sweet and something creamy! Think…. honey & goat cheese or sweet balsamic glaze & parmesan. OO00OOooooh I’m hungry just thinking about it!

🍓 Why CSA Matters! 🍓

The bottom line is that winter farming is tough. While there is still plenty of delicious food to go around, we do operate at a loss until warmer weather rolls through and we can grow a greater volume of crops. By purchasing a 3- or 4-season share now, you help fund seeds, tools, equipment, supplies, and fair pay for our farmers ~ so we can start the year prepared, not stressed outa our minds. During the year (when things are much more abundant!), CSA helps us plan what to plant, how much to harvest, and where it will go. This prevents over-harvesting, reduces food waste, and keeps the farm resilient and healthy. It’s a model that really truly supports what we do very directly, and we try our best to make it an awesome deal and experience for you, too! We hope you’ll join us!!

Stay Warm out There!!
