SM26 (WK12): Out Standing in Every field ⚾
Dear Farm Community,
The fall equinox arrives on Tuesday, September 22nd, but our Fall CSA begins a few weeks earlier, on September 1st!
Sign-ups are officially LIVE on our website for anyone who would like to join us for the full fall season and receive a 5% discount. The discount is available for both full-season Veggie Shares and Flower Shares, and the deadline to sign up is August 30th.
Already a weekly-pay member? You don’t need to do a thing ~ your subscription will automatically roll over into fall. If you’d rather switch to the discounted full-season option, simply cancel your weekly-pay subscription between August 24th and August 29th, then sign up for the full fall season by August 30th.
The farm’s been basically one big farmer cook-pot with heat indexes past the 100’s on the reg last week and this upcoming week. We’re chugging electrolytes, taking breaks in our coolers, and when necessary leaving early. Sometimes it just aint safe in this heat.
Because we’re just not exhausted enough from farming, the farm crew recently took on a sporty extracurricular: SOFTBALL! Your favorite farmers can now be found practicing our pitches, sprinting between bases, and hollerin at the top of our lungs in the local softball league. After a few practices, our first game last week was a smashing success. We (respectfully) crushed the ACC Dougherty Dead Librarians 18-8 in our first game! GO TEAM
In other farm news, last week Carter and a few of our farm managers took a field trip out to Love is Love Cooperative Farm in Mansfield, GA for a food safety workshop with some fellow farmers. Even with strong food safety practices already in place at our farm, there’s always more to learn, and we came home with fresh ideas for making our pack shed flow even more smoothly and continuing to strengthen the systems and procedures that keep our produce safe from field to your fridge. It’s a real gift to be part of a farming community where we can learn from one another, share what works, and keep raising the bar together.
This week in your CSA shares, we have some GREENS FOR YOU!! We’re harvesting a beautiful bed of arugula for our CSA members. The summer heat’s got it extra peppery, but that makes it just perfect to pair with the figs in your share for a super yummy fig salad with arugula and pecans. Fresh figs, peppery arugula, creamy goat cheese, toasted pecans, and basil all get tossed together with a balsamic vinaigrette for a perfect summer salad. You can also go the labor-intensive but so-worth-it pizza route with this ricotta-fig pizza with arugula and a balsamic honey glaze (I probably shouldn’t cuss on here but holy [REDACTED] that looks so good.) The perfect balance of sweet and savory, peppery and creamy, and enough salt fat acid n heat to make Samin Nosrat proud. That recipe is a mic drop if I’ve ever seen one. And ultimately, y’all know what to do to make that arugula shine.
